I want to set up a wireless network so I can play my ps2 online from upstairs instead of having to cart it down everytime I want to play.
There seems a decent guide here
But it talks about Cable or DSL modems, and mine is a USB modem, so I tried their tech support chat:
mcphee: I want to set up my ps2 for wireless networking, but I have a usb modem and your guide only shows it working with cable or dsl modems .. can this be done?
Edzel Razon: If the modem has a usb port, it can configure properly. But it is much advisable you have a router to configure easily.
mcphee: there is no usb port on the modem, it just plugs into the network card via one
mcphee: if I got the Wireless Access Point Router (BEFW11S4) do I then plug the usb modem into a port on the router?
Edzel Razon: your ps2 cant be done just the modem only. Try to purchase a router and it will benefit alot with your network.
Edzel Razon: What are the ports on your ps2 aside from usb
mcphee: sorry the usb runs from my modem to my pc, i then have an ethernet cable from pc to ps2
Edzel Razon: alright you can purchase BEFW11S4 for your network and it is compatible with the ps2
mcphee: does it work with a usb modem though? your setup guide (http://www.linksys.com/splash.wetplaystation.asp) only shows it with a cable or dsl modem
Edzel Razon: One moment please…
Edzel Razon: all should be work under ethernet cable. As of now we have no router with usb port to work with the usb modem.
mcphee: ahh ok thanks
I am more confused than when I started the conversation..
Does anybody reading this know their way around wireless networking?
Can I set up a router / wireless network when I have a USB modem? If yes, using what equipment?
Do a need a wireless network card? or will a normal one do the job?
I’m sure I had more questions but can’t think of them now!
