v 4.03: proof if needed that not all roleplayers lead interesting lives

This is more of a request for help than a blog.

A few weeks ago IT at work did something weird to my pc, they were installing something remotely, and I don’t think they’d have told me about it at all except that they had to reboot my pc, and I had a floppy in the drive so it wouldn’t reboot til I removed it.

The girl from IT was Very vague about what she was adding, and at one point said “I’m just the messenger” which is always a bad sign!

She said it was something to do with allowing me to write to the intranet..

So from that point I made a note of what she was doing on my pc, it was all to do with IE, internet toold, security, system services etc, and she installed something called Tridion r5.

I looked Tridion r5 up on the internet … and have no idea what it does! 

It’s described as an enterprise content management system … huh?

Was hoping someone out there with more knowledge of this kinda thing could tell me what Tridion r5 is?

    Content management is a way of storing documents in a database in such a way as to be able to control versions and so on. It is often used for corporate web sites in particular. Devon County Council where I work uses something called Obtree to do the same job. Several other councils also use it and so their web sites often look somewhat similar to ours.

    If I am responsible for creating content for part of the company web site I would log into the content management system, pick a template and just type in the text and maybe add links to pictures or other pages in the predetermined location in the template. When I am finished I click a button which stores the page and any other objects (pictures, word documents) in the database and someone else would likely then have to approve the whole jolly lot before it actually makes it onto the live web site. The poor approver would likely end up with a million emails telling him there is stuff to be approved.

    Anyway, it’s all very boring and also innocuous.
