I used to own the website http://www.scoobydoo.co.uk, but after owning it for three years, Hannah Barbera decided they wanted it for themselves.
The case between Hannah Barbera and myself went on for about 10 months. During that time their highly paid lawyer put forward a series of legal arguments, which I rebuked with valid and challenging counter-arguments.
With mediation failed, they submitted a long legal document to the independent expert appointed by Nominet, which I countered with one of my own. At the end of the hearing, Hannah Barbera’s application was dismissed.
They appealed (in the process breaching the rules set down for appeal), I countered each and every point in their appeal. The appeal panel agreed that the objections raised by Hannah Barbera’s lawyers were all null. However they went against the principle of appeals and awarded them the decision.
The initial hearing can be read in full here, and the appeal, here
We set a legal precedent and were reported in numerous legal reports, journals and newsletters. If you google me you’ll find a bunch of them.
After 10 months of legal arguments, hearings and appeals, it seemed they’d won
… but this weekend I regained the moral victory…
I let down the tyres on the Mystery Machine!
