Ahead of next weeks game between Liverpool and Man U, I’ve renewed my yearly bet with one of the United fans at work.

It started off as a simple bet, £1 a point difference at the end of the season, but every year another element gets added … it’s starting to look kinda expensive if it all goes wrong for one of the teams..

£5 League Cup
£5 FA Cup
£5 Premiership
£10 Champions League/ Uefa Cup

£1 a point difference at end of season

£5 for aggregate score over the two league games.
(Away goals count if score is tied).

£1 a point difference in goals conceded (Premiership) at end of season

£1 a goal between Cisse and Ruud (Premiership only)
(Each must play in a minimum of 50% of their clubs Premiership games)

£1 a goal between Gerrard and Scholes (Premiership only)
(Each must play in a minimum of 50% of their clubs Premiership games)

If both teams are knocked out of a particular trophy, there is £1 per extra round for the team which got furthest.

After 4 years of bets, I’m about £20 down, will let you know how year5 went next May!

    Note from 2024: I never did post the results. And seemingly almost never followed up on an “I’ll let you know”.

    So I’m doing it now. I lost £35.
    Liverpool winning the Champions League that year stopped the loss from being much worse!

    I clearly picked the wrong time to move to Australia and stop taking these bets. Liverpool vs Man U in recent would have recouped so much of my money 😀

    League Cup – Liverpool went one round further (final vs semi) +£1
    FA Cup – United went 5 rounds further (final vs 3rd round) -£5
    Premiership – United finished 19 points ahead of Liverpool -£19
    Champions League – Liverpool won it +£10

    Aggregate score (3-1 to United) -£5
    Goal’s Against – (United 26, Liverp0ol 41) -£15
    Cisse vs Ruud – Cisse didn’t play enough to qualify
    Gerrard v Scholes (Gerrard 7, Scholes 9) -£2
