During a work trip, I found myself staying overnight in the small town of Ravenswood, population 349. The highlight? The Imperial Hotel, a building over 100 years old and famously dubbed “The Most Haunted Place in Queensland” (according to The Townsville Bulletin).
Given the hotel’s reputation, I couldn’t resist staying in “the haunted room” for the night. Here’s a photo of the room – no filters, though I took it through the mirror to capture the eerie decay and add to the effect!

The interior hasn’t changed much in the last century, which only heightened the spooky atmosphere. I settled in, ready for a haunting, and before long, I heard an odd knocking sound…
It turned out to be a TV crew at my door, asking if they could film the haunted room. I quickly moved my things – didn’t want my iPhone charger and Doctor Who toothbrush ruining the creepy vibe they were after!
Once the crew left and I had the room to myself again, there were no more disturbances. But I was freezing. Was it ghostly activity? Or just the chill of a 100-year-old hotel room with no insulation? Who knows!
