Before I start this blog, it is important to understand that there are two kinds of ‘dodgy’ in this world, there is ‘good dodgy’ in the Han Solo mold, and ‘evil dodgy’ in the Alex Fergusson mold.
I of course fall in the former category.
Anyway on with the tale.
Last weekend I was bored, and online, and there’s only so much porn you can look at with other people wandering around the house, so I started scouring eBay.
I bought an Iraqi 250 Dinar note, just because it had a picture of Saddam Hussain on it, and is never likely to be printed again, I paid 8 quid, I suspect it’s worth 40p or something.
[edit] Have just checked the exchange rate, it says this 250 Dinars is worth 500 pounds, I now suspect that either my note is counterfeit, or the currency convertor is broken.
Anyway I bid on some other stuff, including a new mobile I won last night (yay), but the main point of this blog is to talk about the tickets.
I have tickets to the UEFA cup final in Seville, I bought them to watch Liverpool in the final, unfortunately Liverpool won’t be there, Celtic will.
Celtic have a huge loyal following, far more than the 13,000 tickets they have been allocated, demand will be massive.
Loyal fans will be desperate to buy, and unscrupulous ticket touts will make their fortunes. Pairs of tickets are currently selling for approx. 1200 quid, so I advertised mine on eBay.
I was quite pleased with the 45 pounds I had spent to buy them.
Within 2 hours of advertising them, the bidding had reached 420 pounds, and all was well with the world.
Then I got an email from someone who I now know to be evil, but at the time he was just known to me as Steven Scott, a Celtic fan.
He said “Hi, If your auction is removed get in touch, I will give you 500 pounds for your tickets!”
Now I do know (having researched it) that selling football tickets on eBay is kinda illegal. (but in a Han Solo ‘good’ dodgy kinda way)
I also know that eBay don’t police their own site, they only remove offending items if they receive a complaint.
Shortly after open of business this morning (7.18 am) my auction was cancelled.
Obviously my first suspicion was that Alex Fergusson had set me up, when I’d woken up a little more my suspicions moved to Steven Scott, the Celtic fan.
It doesn’t take a genius to realise the (evil dodgy) git had complained about me, and was trying to get my tickets for a cut price 500 pounds.
This bit at the end of the blog is where I’d normally tell you how the situation was resolved:
but it hasn’t been yet.
I’m not selling the tickets to Steven Scott the Celtic fan, or to Alex Fergusson, the git.
Five Hundred pounds is only slightly more than eleven times the face value of the tickets, it would be immoral of me to sell the tickets to a genuine Celtic fan for anything less than twenty times their value.. Han Solo would turn in his grave if I did.
I’ll readvertise them in a few days, and see what happens.
I’ve already put my name down for Champions League Final Tickets, will find out next week if I have got any.
