To go with my speeding ticket two weeks ago, I got a parking ticket today…

I was tempted to suggest in your previous blog that a new months resolution could be not to get another speeding ticket (and I guess a parking ticket is close enough to count) but didn’t bother as it sounded too easy.

I faught a parking ticket once. I got a very patronising (borderline insulting) letter back which enfuriated me… £30 fine before the inevitable £60 one came along.

Dear Sir
Please advise me on the correct course of action
This morning I was parked in the loading bay outside the Trading Standards Offices, Palmyra House, Palmyra Square, Warrington, whilst I unloaded my car.
It is my understanding that the loading bay was designated such for this very purpose, and as a Trading Standards Officer there are occasions when I need to use the bay to load / unload the various equipment we use.
Having finished unloading, I returned to my vehicle to find there was a Fixed Penalty Notice on the windscreen (edit: not gonna publish the ticket number online).
The notice states that I was ‘incorrectly parked at bay’.
Could you please advise me of the reason I was given the ticket. As I was legitimately using the loading bay to unload my vehicle.
Please be assured I do intend to respond to the notice within the 28 days allowed, either by requesting a court hearing, or paying the fine, my decision will obviously depend upon the information you now supply to me. Therefore where possible I would appreciate a prompt reply.

Sounds to me like the traffic warden must have been a bit over-zealous. Hopefully they’ll just cancel the ticket or something.

Note from 2024: I’m not sure yet if I ever posted the outcome. But I lost and had to pay!
They did wait until after the 28 day period was up to reply, and in that reply pointed out that as I didn’t pay within the 28 days, the fine was now doubled.
I did fight that bit, and won. So just paid the original fine.
That counts as a victory, right?
