This year’s football season has been a bad one for me. Not because Liverpool have played so badly (altho that added to it), but because of Arsenal.
I’m a big Liverpool fan, I don’t often go to see them, but am on the waiting list for a season ticket at Anfield, and have been for 6 or 7 years.
At the start of the season I was messing around with my betting account, and they were (for some reason) taking bets on who would be the first team to beat Arsenal this year. The odds were fairly short for the early games of the season, everybody expected them to have a normal season and lose the odd game here and there.. but I noticed the odds for them to go undefeated were 250 – 1. High odds, but then nobody would be stupid enough to back them to go undefeated, it’s never happened before.
I put £1.50 on them.
Skipping forward 9 months, this Saturday Arsenal (already champions) play Leicester (already relegated), if Arsenal win, or even just draw, I’ve won £375 on the bet.
Which you’d think would be a good thing…
But.. Arsenal are ‘The Enemy’, not as bad as Man U, but they’re our big rivals, the ones who pipped us to the title in the 90’s by scoring against us in injury time of the last game of the season. The ones who beat us to the title 2 years ago when we finished above Man U.
But this year I’m wanting them to win..
It’s just horrible!
I’ve never bet against Liverpool before, and didn’t mean to this time, afterall Arsenal were bound to have been beaten by the time they play Liverpool, so this bet wouldn’t matter. When I placed it, it was just a throwaway bet..
Roll on next season when I can cheer Arsenal’s defeats once more!
