On November 1st 2000 I created the character of Moonskipper the Halfling druid in Everquest.
On February 1st 2002 I started a second account with Murkwood the Iksar monk.
Despite Iksars and Halflings being deadly enemies, the two have adventured together for the past 3 years. Moonskipper alone has got over 31 days playing time.. that’s over 750 hours sat in front of a pc playing him..
I’ve not played the game much lately, partly due to World of Warcraft, but could never cancel my subscriptions.. I always get too attached to characters I roleplay, and continue paying for them long after I lose interest in the game..
But this weekend I logged onto EQ, (WoW servers were down) and spent a few hours doing faction quests with Murkwood.. now the halflings love him, so he can go into Rivervale without getting attacked.
I left them both sat in the inn in Rivervale, both drunken and reminiscing over their adventures together.
I don’t feel so bad about letting them go now, they’re both happy… and I’m such a suck!
EQ is cancelled, followed quickly by Star Wars Galaxies (no sentiment there, just cancelled it), and I’m about £20 a month richer, yay 🙂
