Last May I went to an Angel Con organised by StarFury.  I’d never been to a con before (other than a StarGate one me and Lara gate-crashed for one night), and wasn’t sure what to expect .. other than that there would probably be people dressed as Klingons (there weren’t .. they were dressed as vampires).

It was great, it ran from Friday lunchtime to 5am Sunday and altho Angel himself wasn’t there, they got ALL the major co-stars Wesley, Gunn, Fred, Connor, Lorne, Darla, Lilah, and Drusila.  Everyone got very drunk, and it was very cool.

This weekend I went to a Buffy/Angel Halloween Ball organised by Jealous Events.  they didn’t announce the guest list until the week before the con, so everybody had already bought their tickets (some paying £600!!!).  The guests were announced.. Rudolf Martin – he was in one episode of Buffy playing Dracula, Stacey Scowley – she was in 2 episodes of Buffy, in a role so minor she was credited as “Young Woman”, Kelly Donovan – the stunt double of the guy who plays Xander in Buffy

The actual Conventiony bits were embarrassing, the crowd weren’t arsed, some of the guests tried hard, Kelly was funny and he and his girlfriend (Stacey) seemed really nice.  Rudolf was a bit .. mah.

It was £20 to get your photo taken with a ‘stars’ … but you had to supply your own camera!

The con was supposed to run for two days, the second day taken up with autographs and photos..  but so few people wanted autographs that they fitted it all into an hour on the saturday.

The party last night was fun, just a huge disco in one room, and kareoke in the other (Lara sang but I was in the other room and missed it).  There was a bucking bronco and a gladiator arena, which were cool (altho hardly the ‘indoor fairground’ that had been promised!).

We got very drunk, and I got (free) photos of me with Kelly – who is actually Nic Brandon (Xander)’s twin brother, so I can pass it off as a photo with a star ;p

They were both great, happy to chat to me, pose 3 times for photos with me when the girl taking the pic of me and Stacey couldn’t work the camera.

It was a crap con, badly organised, and they failed to deliver most of what they promised (no wonder they got featured on Watchdog after their last con), but last night was a LOT of fun, and the guys they did get, did their best to make it enjoyable. 

Am glad I went 🙂
